Formations is a cinematic live-performance platform built in New York City. We create high-end, film-driven performance sessions with emerging and established artists, blending music, cinema, and design into a new kind of visual experience.

Our productions step far beyond the traditional “live session” format. Instead of shooting every artist on the same stage or backdrop, each Formations performance is treated like a short film. Every session takes place in a completely new world — a different set design, location, lighting environment, and narrative concept crafted specifically around the artist’s identity and sound.

We work closely with musicians to translate their energy into a visual language. Our team designs each project from the ground up: storyboarding, location scouting, set building, lighting design, color theory, wardrobe coordination, and multi-camera motion setups that capture the rawness of a live performance with the intentionality of cinema.

Each shoot is created with the same rigor as a music video — but filmed 100% live.

We’re building a catalog of unforgettable performances — each one a fully realized, visually distinct moment — and a platform that pushes the boundary of what live music can look and feel like.

Formations was founded in 2025 by Alex Soto and Jeremy LeBlanc. The idea took shape when the two met during an internship at a recording studio in New York City. Alex had just finished at NYU and Jeremy was graduating from FIT, and they connected instantly over the same two passions that defined how they saw the world: the energy of live concerts and the storytelling of great cinema.

Alex was deeply moved by films that captured the pressure and emotion behind performance, like Whiplash, and the way certain movies make music feel alive on screen. Jeremy had always gravitated toward live music videos that felt cinematic and dynamic, where sound and picture hit with equal force. Together, they realized there was no platform fully committed to blending those two worlds. Nothing that treated a live performance like a film. Nothing that created a visual universe around an artist with the same intention that a director brings to a scene.

That realization sparked the beginning of Formations.

What started as an idea between two friends has evolved into creating high-level, cinematic live performance films across New York City. Each session is built as its own world, crafted with the same care and intention as a film set, and designed to showcase artists in a way that feels immersive, bold, and unforgettable.

Today, Formations is shaping a new creative space. It is becoming a launchpad for emerging musicians, filmmakers, and actors who believe that live performance can be both real and cinematic at the same time. The goal is simple. Elevate artists. Build culture. Create moments that last.
